These days there are full-time positions for social media for a reason. You have to do quite a bit of testing to figure out what works. You also have to devote a lot of time engaging with people that are a part of your target audience. There’s a lot of outreach involved if you want to reap significant benefits. Benefits such as driving a large amount of traffic to your website or making people advocates of your brand by sharing your content consistently.

I’m proud to say I’ve been able to generate leads and revenue through social media over the years. Specifically Twitter and LinkedIN. But man oh man, it’s a grind.

Here are 3 amazing tricks I’ve learned along the way that work:

  • Use emotional and power words. Power words consist of a lot of adjectives. Words like outstanding, exclusive, powerful, colossal, you get the point.
  • Comment on everyone’s stuff. Not everyone, but as many people as possible in your target audience. People you want as clients or partners. One way to find them is by searching through hashtags. Create a list of people and start adding them to it. Then comment on their stuff, you don’t have to say much. Something like “Great post!” will do. Doing this draws an instant curiosity and draws people to your profile faster. You can also do things like retweet their posts and thank those that follow you back. Include a link to your website of course. If you do these things enough they will take notice and reciprocate the favors. This draws attention to your profile from their following.
  • Make sure your content is something worth looking at. I know we live in a time where people have the attention span of a 2-year-old. But people appreciate quality work and they recognize it when they see it. You must strive to always create a first impression. Get a lot of feedback from friends, family, and coworkers about your content before finalizing whatever it is.
